The objective is to investigate three branches of astroparticle physics: the extreme universe, phenomena of space weather and atmospheric radiation at the terrestrial level.

The particle detection network consists of several arrays of ground detectors located at different latitudes (from Mexico to the Antarctic region) and at different altitudes (from sea level to more than 5000 meters above sea level).

Bolivia, due to its geographical characteristics, has the possibility of being part of this collaboration network between more than 25 institutions in 9 American countries.

The detectors that are used are called Cherenkov water tanks, because of the effect that occurs when an astroparticle interacts with water.

Photomultiplier tubes are installed inside the detector to collect the light that is generated in this interaction.
